The Process

Every bespoke piece begins with a conversation.

Dorset is built on considered design, careful material selection, and patient craftsmanship. The process is intentionally structured to ensure clarity, confidence, and a result that will endure for generations.

1. Initial Consultation

We begin with a conversation about your space, requirements, and aspirations for the piece.

This may take place in person or via video call. The aim is not simply to define dimensions, but to understand how the piece will live within your home.

2. Concept & Design

Following our discussion, initial concepts are developed.

Proportions, materials, and detailing are carefully considered. Where appropriate, sketches or visualisations are produced to refine the direction before any timber is selected.

Restraint and longevity guide every decision.

3. Material Selection

Timber is chosen individually for each project.

Grain, tone, and character are considered in relation to the final environment. Where possible, clients are invited to be part of this stage, either in person or through detailed documentation.

4. Making

Each piece is constructed in Dorset using traditional and modern techniques.

Careful attention is given to joinery, surface preparation, and finish. The process is documented with transparency, with elements of the work shared publicly through the Dorset workshop journal.

Nothing is rushed.

5. Completion & Delivery

Final finishing and inspection ensure the piece meets the highest standards before leaving the workshop.

Delivery is arranged with care, and installation can be coordinated where required.
